WHAT IS RUBBER?

At Vargort we have a wide range of rubber products designed to meet the needs of our customers in different sectors, such as the construction industry, the automotive industry, the food industry, the railway industry and the energy industry.

Pero nos fascina todo el proceso del caucho y queremos compartir esta información. Es increíble, todo el gran proceso que tiene el Caucho antes de llegar a nuestras manos.

WHAT IS RUBBER?

Rubber is a material of natural origin, it is an elastic polymer, cis-1,4-polyisoprene, isoprene polymer or 2-methylbutadiene. C5H8 that arises as a milky emulsion (known as latex) in the sap of various plants, but can also be produced synthetically.

WHERE DOES RUBBER COME FROM?

Rubber was already known to the ancient inhabitants of the Americas and was used in the manufacture of balls and footwear. However, it was during the 18th century that rubber became more widely known and used in Europe, thanks to voyages of exploration and discovery.

The main source is (Hevea brasiliensis) is a tree of 20 to 30 m, which through a systematic treatment of "bleeding", latex is collected and flows through the wound of the tree once it has solidified.

Other plants that have not been the primary source and that contain latex are ficus euphorkingdom heartsbias and common dandelion.

Rubber is obtained from other species such as Urceola elastica from Asia and Funtumia elastica from West Africa. It is also obtained from the latex of Castilla elástica, Kalule patenium argentatum and Gutta-percha palaquium gutta.

It should be noted that some of these species such as gutta percha are trans isomers that have the same chemical formulation, it is the same product, but with different isomerism.

Today, Hevea is grown in large plantations, in some cases owned by large tire industries, where grafts of genetically modified varieties are used to optimize latex production.

WHAT IS RUBBER USED FOR?

Rubber is used in a a wide variety of products and applicationsthanks to the characteristics of elasticity, strength and durabilityIt is used in the manufacture of tires for vehicles, in the production of footwear, in the manufacture of rubber objects such as toys, in the production of machine parts, in the manufacture of medical products such as gloves and in the construction industry for the waterproofing of structures.

In the sealingrubber is highly valued for its ability to seal and prevent the entry of liquids, gases and other materials.

This makes it an ideal material for use in applications where airtightness is essential, such as in the gaskets and seals manufacturing for pipes, valves and other structures requiring perfect sealing.

WHAT IS THE RUBBER PROCESS?

To prepare the rubber, you first need to extracting sap from the rubber tree. The solid latex is collected in cubes and will go through a process in which it will be cut into small pieces, and a chemical treatment will be applied to darken them.

Natural rubber is usually vulcanizedto create different synthetic rubbers, a process by which sulfur or selenium is heated and added, thus bonding the elastomer chains to improve their resistance to temperature variations and elasticity.

WHAT TYPES OF RUBBER ARE AVAILABLE?

There are different types of rubber, such as natural rubber, which is obtained from the latex of rubber trees, and synthetic rubber, which is manufactured from petrochemical materials. There are also different types of synthetic rubber, such as nitrile rubber, chloroprene rubber and butyl rubber, among others.

The following are some of the most common types of rubber:

Natural rubber: Rubber obtained from the sap of some trees. It is very elastic and resistant to abrasion and tearing. It is used in high-strength applications and in the manufacture of gaskets and seals.

Nitrile rubber: Also known as acrylonitrile butadiene rubber. (NBR). This type of synthetic rubber has a high resistance to oil, gasoline and other petroleum-based liquids. It is used in applications where tightness to petroleum-based liquids is required.

Chloroprene CR rubber: Also known as acrylonitrile butadiene rubber. Neoprene. It is a type of synthetic rubber that has a high resistance to fire, weathering and abrasion. It is used in applications where weather and abrasion tightness is required, such as in the manufacture of seals for roofs and structures exposed to the environment.

Cellular rubber: They are rubber sponge rubber (from 10ºshA to 25ºshA) having different presentation formats; in sheets, profiles or weather stripping with and without adhesive.

Silicone rubber: It is a type of Synthetic rubber which has a high resistance to heat and cold. It is used in applications where high temperature sealing is required, such as in the manufacture of gaskets and seals for engines and high temperature equipment.

Fluorinated rubber: It is a type of Synthetic rubber which has a high resistance to chemicals and solvents. It is used in applications where chemical resistance is required, such as in the manufacture of gaskets and seals for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry.

Ethylene-propylene rubber: Also known as EPDM. It is a type of synthetic rubber that has a high resistance to weathering and UV rays. It is used in applications where weather-tightness and UV resistance are required, such as in the manufacture of gaskets and seals for roofs and structures exposed to the environment.

Each type of rubber has specific properties that make it ideal for different sealing applications. It is important to choose the right type of rubber for each application to ensure maximum efficiency and durability.

Rubber products Vargort Vargort include rubber gaskets, rubber seals, rubber insulators, rubber profiles and other customized rubber products. They are made of excellent materials and meet international quality standards.
